Though the holiday snuck up on me, the sad realization of having to somehow cut ties with a project was a gradual, escalating process. I was really enjoying doing what I was for the project, & only wished to be able to do more but I came to the understanding that I was limited in what I could physically do, was rarely prepared with my documents & proposals beforehand, learned fratenizing needed to be a minium, & learned that not only do I need to trust those I hire to help, but they need to listen to my direction as well as understand who they're reporting to. The whole thing was one obstacle after another, & I felt like things were just of reach from being under my control the entire time. It was very defeating & due to some recent misfortunate events, I'm having to seperate myself from the whole ordeal. I have yet to really face it, but it seems as though now would be a good a time as ever to try to severe any ties. There's still unfinished business but I don't know how to continue without any more negativity. We shall see.

Currently at Crossroads Architecture.
I've been trying to regularly intern, as in at least 2 times a week.
I've gotten to work on several different projects & I've learned quite a bit.
School turned out to be a no-go this semester, so I need to stay focused.
I'd like to try to apply what I've learned from my hands-on experience at Crossroads towards finishing the Elba Residence [with strings attached], as well as my own house [Morelia Residence]. Maybe if I can committ myself to it, even revising past projects.
Once I've gotten my Interior Design degree, I'd like to further [or begin!] my Architecture degree, most likely at FAU.
We shall see what the Fall/Winter brings...

Laziness Chronicles
It's imperative that I document my time & mileage.
So why haven't I been?!
And the whole having documents ready BEFORE we work on the project. Especially the PRICING.
I'm going to be a busy bee this weekend.
It seems like we're doing too many things at Elba's, when really we're at a nice, slow pace.
Get it together, Amber!

Designing For Your Dog.
Designing For Your Dog.
I love this lady.
Even moreso now that my Design concept has reached her neck of the woods.
Though, considering she's already designed an animal hospital/vet's office, I think she's ahead of me.

Crossroads Architecture
After having been introduced to Niki Gozdz over 5 years ago through my previous job at CSM Engineers, I've admired her professional career ever since.
By chance, I was reunited with her through the USGBC. I just KNEW I knew her from somewhere, & when I realized it, sadly, she didn't.
Then, my teacher setup a job interview with Hustons in Stuart, FL.
When I went to the interview, I realized Niki's new office was in the exact same plaza, & I'd have much rather been interviewing over there.
After mentioning this to my teacher, & with her involvement in the USGBC, my teacher overlooked her strong Architectural background & recommended that I interview her for my Practicum class.
Just this past week, I finally got to meet with her to discuss the questions I had for my interview, & I couldn't help but ask if I could intern at her office, especially knowing that she partakes in Interiors as well.
She accepted.
So, as serendipitous as its been, I get to begin working for & helping someone I really look up to & pursue my career. I'm so excited, I've already changed alll my statuses to notate my new found internship & I haven't even started!

2011 Children's Home Society Designer's Showcase House
So after many weeks of preparation & trying to simultaneously aid the designers all the while staying out of their way, the Show House has finally opened. I ended up missing my first opportunity to room docent, but I will be there this Sunday afternoon. As well as the following Wednesday -ALL DAY. Its really a sight to behold, & having to compete with the owner's own artistic input, the rooms really had an amazing turn out. I have my favorites of course, including Susan Morgan & her kitchen [not just because I beaded her chandelier for 7 hours].
Its really nice to be a part of.
P.S. Interestingly enough, the client's house, is a client of mine at the bank. Its been a pleasure to know her.

Boys + Girls Club
I found a website regarding Sustainable Commercial Furniture. I feel like its a MUST for our Commercial project. I originally found a site that had the neatest Sustainable pieces, but its only in Washington state - which isn't conducive to shipment, or replacing pieces.
But here's some images of their pieces, the look that I ideally was going for...

Elba Back + Commercial
Spent the morning gathering supplies for my 'client' Elba Back's mirror frame.
It's exciting to get everything together, only a short matter of time before its complete!
Though, time is my worst enemy.
Spent the afternoon trying to explain my space planning tactics to no avail.
Due to the unconstructive 3 hour meeting, I now have more work to do in a shorter time frame.
So, I digress.

Elba Back
Possible first client!
My jewelry designer, Elba Back is letting me design & help put together her house.
She's a very New Mexico/Modern kinda gal & I already have so many ideas.
Just have to put them on paper...or Sketchup.
So excited!

Spring 2011 - Week 4
Today marks the end of week 4 for this Spring Semester.
Hopefully I'll be getting a lot of work done today & I can go shopping for my light fixture project due in 4 weeks.
My Commercial project, when not compared to the other teams, is seemingly having a nice start. However, our dysfunctional team is another story.

Me being the latter, this isn't going as planned!

M + M's
Began my Monday trio of classes.
Lighting.
Practicum II.
Sustainable.
I have three projects in Lighting.
1. Reviewing my electric bill.
2. Designing & creating a light fixture.
3. Writing a lighting prescription for a client.
I've already taken an interest in my Electric bill as soon as I moved into my first house. All my light bulbs are CFL's [LEDs were still impractical], I've installed a tank-less water heater, replaced my inefficient HVAC, & had an overall cognisance of energy use.
As for the latter two, creating a light fixture, & writing a prescription, I could combine to focus on myself as a client with my Master bedroom as the area of need. All inclusive of my bedroom's need for task, mood, & overall lighting; My walk-in closet's necessity for a new fixture; and my bathroom's transition to a pendant light.
For Practicum, I have to revisit all of my portfolio's, physical & technical, & update them.
I also have to search for an internship for the semester.
And lastly, Sustainable <3
The main project for this class will be that the class is broken into groups and having a Panel Discussion a.k.a. Symposium a.k.a. Charette regarding one of 7 topics.
I also began my Commercial II class this past Thursday, & the agenda for this Thursday consists of being lumped in one of two groups in the race for the design for a Boys & Girls Club in Indiantown.
Exciting.
